Statement of intent
Product 1
I intend to create a cohesive and youthful music magazine for a 16-25 year old middle market audience who like to be entertained, exploring different genres of music and the artists themselves. In my research, I found popular music magazines made their model the star and catered the layout of the magazine to highlight the artist, which attracted an audience. My contents will include ways to learn more about the artist and their life not just their music. For example, I will have ‘Get to know the artist’ interviews for both of my front covers. My models will create a persona and will build their relationship with the audience through relatable content in both of my products. I will use eye catching colours for both magazines as it provides a stronger message and catches the audience’s attention. I plan to use intertextuality by quoting other artists lyrics in my contents page who produce music within the same genre as my main star. I will use cover lines which reference popular artists within the same music genre as my main artist. My first cover will use highlighted green font with contrasting black writing. By using the motif of light, I feel the genre of music, house, is being addressed and my target audience of 16-25 will understand the correlation between the house genre and the aspects of my magazine which connote upcoming tech in the music industry. My second cover will include themes of feminism. I will anchor this by having pink as the main colour. The cover lines and contents will reference not only upcoming music but also important themes both genders will respond to: for example mental health and the generational change in music.
Product 2
On my website, I will use the theoretical framework to convey meaning and keep audiences engaged consistently throughout. I will use a strong colour palette which aligns with my magazine. I will feature my main artists in my website and show a relatable and more personable side to them. For example, Tahlia will talk about her makeup routine and Ozzie will talk about his mental health Journey. I will carry through themes and motifs used in my magazine, for example light and upcoming technology as-well as feminism and mental health. I will have interactive features on my website, for example an option to signup for regular update on the diverge brand. I will advertise future Diverge events on an events page which share themes with my magazine covers and contents. Furthermore, i want to create collabs with brands such as Spotify and a charity link with mind (men’s mental health) which nicely links with the articles and stories I will publish. I want to display a range of contents that all demographics will enjoy, including different genres of music and incorporating a pop culture element to the site to broaden the amount of content I can display, as well as varied representations of different social groups (gender).
Digital Convergence
Digital convergence is important as it employs synergy across all platforms and products, allowing the sharing of content and communication between the producers and the audience and over creating an established, high quality media product that digital natives will enjoy consuming. I will use ‘call to action’ on my contents pages, relating to features on the instagram for the audience to post a picture with a caption ‘rising star’ which nicely coheres with the modern theme in my second edition. Furthermore, in my website, both editions will be mentioned and ‘last weeks edition’ will be showcased on the homepage. I will also include a barcode of my website on the contents page, so digital natives can easily access the website on their device after reading the magazine. Various links to multiple media platforms ( facebook, instagram, twitter etc) will not only be available for the diverge page itself but also the features artists as I want to make them a priority. I will also use archived instagram photos to help promote future events which hopefully, fans will recognise so it will be familiar to them. This will appeal to my 16-25-year-old audience who are digital natives and will enjoy the digitally convergent techniques applied as it allows them to move from a passive audience to an active on, engaging with the product and using it to become prosumers through comment sections of social media posts or creating their own reviews to be shared.
